FAQ
Everything you need to know

What can I expect from EditingTools.io funding?
  • If your project is accepted, we will support your project financially, pay for post-production services, or provide you with the post production tools you need for your project.
  • Funding can also include: Software licenses for an NLE, an EditingTools Pro account, AI credits for our AI tools, technical support or post-production assistance.
  • We can also act as a co-production company, taking on the work for your project with additonal freelances.

What is the best time to submit a project?

We fund and sponsor projects in the post-production phase, so the application process for our funding starts later than for most other film funding.

  • The best time to submit a project is between the start and end of shooting.
  • If you are still in the planning stage, you can submit your project and add more details to the application later.
  • You must submit your project before the movie is mastered.

What can I use the funds for?

We distinguish between funding and sponsoring:

  • If you receive funding, it must be used primarily for post-production. For example, to pay people who work as editors, assistant editors, colorists, sound designers, sound mixers, or to finish the film. It can also be used for post-production technology such as hardware, renting post-production facilities or services, paying for software, or licensing stock videos, archival footage or music.
  • If you get sponsored by us financially, you are free to choose how you spend the money. However, we would like to see it used for the post-production of the movie.

What's the difference between funding and sponsoring?
  • Funding is the highest level of support you can receive from us. But it also has some stricter rules on what you have to spend the money on. Some universities do not allow project funding, only sponsorship.
  • Sponsorship is for projects that are not allowed to receive funding from other parties. Sponsorship usually has fewer rules on what the money is used for, but has less financial support from us.
  • The amount of financial support varies greatly from project to project and is determined on an individual basis.

How can I increase my chances of getting funding?
  • Your main goal, of course, should be to create a new great piece of art.
  • Plan to submit your film to several festivals. Let us know which festivals you have applied to.
  • Send us some previews, moods, set images or a trailer to get a better idea of your vision.
  • Give us some good background on why your film is important.
  • Let us know the approximate total budget for your project and how you plan to fund it.
  • Share your post-production plan with us, when will your project be picture locked, when will you apply for festivals and when will it be released?

What kind of projects might have little or no chance of being accepted?

We want to save your time sending us applications for projects that may fail to receive funding. It is therefore recommended to avoid the following submissions:

  • Series Pilots
  • YouTube Vlogs
  • Music Videos
  • Private/Wedding Movies
  • Horror Genre
